Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions
Q1.  Where do Glasshield® Films come from?
A.  The film we use is manufactured in The USA by Solutia Inc. and is supplied to Martin Energy Products (MEP) of Australia. The film has been designed to meet all requirements of Australian & New Zealand conditions. They produce approx. 80% of the world's film and in New Zealand, MEP supply NZ about 75% of all the Film sold.

A.  Yes. Just go to the heading "Free Quote" on this Web-site's top menu or click here to complete the quote request form and one of our staff will contact you.
Q3.  What is solar control film?
A.  Polyester - based thin film material is attached to windows and/or doors and offers crystal clarity. The material can also be metallised and easily laminated to other layers of film. It can be dyed or metallised by either vacuum coating or sputtering, to produce a variety of coloured and spectrally selective films.
Q4.  How does it work?
A.  When sunlight strikes glass the following can occur:
  • The energy can pass through the glass (transmittance).
  • It can be reflected away from the glass (reflectance).
  • It can be absorbed by the glass (absorption).

Solar film reduces the amount of visible light being transmitted through glass, thus reducing glare and increasing privacy. The reflective qualities of solar window film are well known and absorption rates are low.

Q5.  Will Glasshield® Films affect my View?
A.  No. They will enhance your view by reducing annoying glare.
Q6.  Why should I Trust Glasshield®?

Q7.  Which windows should I have Glasshield® protection?
A.  These are effective on any window, but the most benefit will be gained from treating those that are most exposed to the Sun, usually those facing North & West or where Furnishings, Carpets are close to windows in direct sunlight.
Q8.  How will I know what product to have installed and how much will it Cost?
A.  For all Residential or Commercial Buildings, the Glasshield® sales staff will talk with you & advise the best film for your requirements.
Q9.  Does the film go on the inside or outside of the glass?
A.  Film is applied to the interior surface of the existing glass. There is no need to go through the expense of replacing the glass. For difficult to reach windows, such as skylights, we also have an exterior film.
Q10.  Do you use any chemicals in the process that may damage our furniture?
A.  No the total process is completed with water and slip solution, PH Neutral and Acid free.
Q11.  Does Glasshield® Films require any special Cleaning?
A.  It is recommended to allow 10 days some times more for the adhesive to properly bond to the glass. Drying time generally varies based on the weather conditions and temperature. We recommend you use a "Micro-Fibre Cloth" to clean your windows. Do NOT use cleaning solutions that contain ammonia and do NOT use Towels or Newspaper to clean your windows.
Q12.  Does Glasshield® stop fading?
A.  There are number of factors that affect fading. The pie chart illustrates the distribution of each factor.

Pie Chart.

As you can see the number one cause of fading is UV rays. All of our window films block 99% of the suns UV rays. In addition, some of our window films reject/block as much as 78% of total solar energy, reducing damage caused by heat and light.

Nevertheless, it is important to realise that although window film can drastically reduce fading (in most cases more than double the life expectancy of furniture, carpet, etc.) it will not stop it completely.

Q13.  Will window tinting make the room very dark?
A.  It depends on the film. You may choose a product with a very light shade which provides UV protection and rejects solar energy. However, as a general rule, the darker the window film, the more energy will be blocked from coming in (reflectivity of the products are also an important factor in determining the performance of the window film). Most window film, even the dark will allow more light in than horizontal blinds open or nets.
Q14.  Will window film bubble or start peeling after few years?
A.   All our solar control window films are backed by the manufacturers' warranties (life time for residential and 12 years for commercial) against pealing, bubbling and cracking. Our products use the latest "Dry Adhesive" technology with a superior adhesion over traditional "pressure sensitive" adhesives.
Q15.  Will film strengthen the window glass?
A.  Yes. If the window happens to get cracked or broken, it will hold the broken glass in place until you have it repaired.
Q16.  Do you have any testimonials from clients?
A.  Yes. Click here to read our testimonials.
